Okaikwei North Assembly endorses new MCE

Accra, May 11, GNA-The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) has unanimously endorsed Mr Christian Tetteh Badger as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). 

Mr Badger ‘s confirmation after he  secured all seventeen (17) votes from the Assembly Members, a statement copied to the GNA has said. 

According to the statement his appointment makes him the second MCE to serve the municipality. 

Mr Badger succeeded  Mr Boye Laryea, who held the position for two consecutive terms. 

The endorsement ceremony, held in Accra, was attended by key dignitaries including the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mrs. Linda Ocloo. 

Mrs. Ocloo later administered the Oath of Office, Oath of Secrecy, and Oath of Allegiance to Mr Badger urged the Assembly Members to support the nominee in the interest of sustained development.  

In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed MCE described his appointment as both an honour and a solemn responsibility.  

“This is not just a personal achievement, but a call to duty — to serve the people, the Municipality, and the country. I accept this responsibility not with pride, but with humility; not with triumph, but with resolve,” he stated. 

Mr. Badger paid tribute to his predecessor, Mr. Boye Laryea, acknowledging the solid foundation he laid, adding he intends to build upon it.  

He pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders — including traditional authorities, religious leaders, Assembly Members, civil society groups, and citizens to foster inclusive development. 

“I envision an Okaikwei North that is vibrant, inclusive, and progressive — a Municipality where every child can dream without limitation, where our youth have jobs rather than handouts, and where development is equitably distributed,” he said. 

The MCE said his administration would focus on: Participatory Governance and Transparency; Education and Youth Employment; Healthcare and Social Protection (Mahama Care); Environmental Health and Sanitation; Development Control; Revenue Generation; and Peace, Security, and Social Cohesion. 

Mr. Daniel Dzadey, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, affirmed the Assembly’s commitment to advancing President John Dramani Mahama’s development agenda.  

“We in ONMA will do our utmost to be the hub for the President’s policies, programmes, and initiatives,” he added. 

Madam Theresa Lardi Awuni, the Member of Parliament  for Okaikwei North, emphasized the Assembly’s readiness to fully endorse the MCE, noting that a united front was essential for the effective functioning of the municipality. 

In another development, the Assembly on Monday May, 5, 2025 elected Mr. Daniel Dzadey as its new Presiding Member, following a decisive vote by Assembly Members. 

Mr. Dzadey polled fourteen (14) out of the valid votes cast, defeating his contender, Mr. Kenneth Kojo Avorditey, who garnered three (3) votes. 

Mr Dzadey takes over from Nii Odai Abdullah, who served as the Assembly’s Presiding Member for two consecutive terms. 

Mr. Dzadey was sworn into office by Mr. Prince Osei-Owusu, the Achimota District Court Magistrate. 

Mr. Dzadey, who also represents the Anumle Electoral Area as the Assembly Member, expressed gratitude to his colleagues and pledged to lead the Assembly with diligence and vision. 

Mr Dzadey called for more collaboration of all stakeholders in order to bring Government Policies closer to the residents within the Municipality. 

Mr Dzadey, 36, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon. 

 He was a two-term Assembly Member for the Anumle Electoral Area and works as an Event Planner and businessman. 

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Mrs. Lillian Baeker, the Chief Director of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council; Mr. Francis K. Mensah, the Municipal Coordinating Director; Heads of Security Agencies, traditional rulers, executives and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as Departmental Heads and Staff of the Assembly.
