Sunyani, (Bono), May 16, GNA – The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Friday urged the Prisons Service to secure the custody of inmates, safeguard their fundamental human rights and dignity.

They must also facilitate the reformation and successful reintegration of the inmates into society.

Mr Peter Kwabena Gyasi, the Deputy Bono Regional Director of the NCCE, who gave the advice said it was expected of the service to do more to rehabilitate the inmates by enhancing their capacities in employable skills and vocational training, as well as moral education.

He was speaking at a meeting Sunyani, the Commission organized for the Bono Regional Prisons Command, as part of the activities lined up to mark 2025 Constitution Week Celebration of the NCCE.

The NCCE is celebrating the Week on the theme: “Ghana’s future: Our collective responsibility.”

Mr Gyasi urged security agencies to also remain resolute and condemn social ills that impede progressive growth and national development.

He said the security professionals could offer constructive criticisms by issuing “caveat to the government on issues of national interest.”

Mr Gyasi noted that the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of national development, saying it was imperative for everybody, including security professionals to participate actively and thereby foster an all-inclusive development.

He said the nation’s development hinged on economic, social, and culture stressing the importance of unity in diversity to facilitate accelerated and holistic national development.

“Our vision for the nation can be realised only when citizens remain law abiding, protect public property, safeguard the environment, uphold justice, and promote peaceful coexistence”, Mr Gyasi stated.

“These values form the moral and social foundation required to secure the nation’s long-term development and prosperity”, he added.
