Sunyani (Bono) May 24, GNA – The National Disaster Management Organisation (NAMDO) has identified 78 flood-prone communities in the Bono Region, Mrs Fati Kine-Lam, the Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has said.
She said the organisation was putting up proactive measures to manage potential flooding in those areas as the rains set in, and urged residents especially those at Banda-Ahenkro, Sunyani Central Business District (CBD), Sunyani Kuotokrom and Berekum Municipality to be safety conscious when raining.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mad Kine-Lam said the NADMO had intensified public education on disaster management, urging the people to desist from putting structures and buildings on water ways and flood prone areas.
She expressed concern about the springing up of putting up of structures and kiosks at unauthorised places in many of the 12 politically administrative Districts and Municipalities in the region and called on the Assemblies to bring the situation under control.
Mrs KIne-Lam said those structures blocked waterways, urging the public to also desist from indiscriminate dumping of plastic waste to choke gutters, contributing to poor drainage systems in many of the towns and communities.
