Akatsi (VR), May 27, GNA – Mr Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akatsi South in the Volta Region has said his outfit would initiate appropriate measures to address the numerous challenges facing traders and patrons of the Akatsi Central market.

As part of immediate interventions, Mr Dagba has tasked technocrats from the Assembly with preparing estimates for the reconstruction of some dilapidated structures, such as the market gates, the re-roofing of all damaged stalls, and the rebuilding of collapsed walls.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Edem Unity Avege, the Akatsi South Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress after the MCE paid a working visit to the market to assess its current state.

Mr Dagba further directed that all refuse to be cleared and overgrown bushes within the market precincts be removed immediately.

The visit, which formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and sanitation across the Municipality, saw the MCE accompanied by engineers, senior staff members from the Assembly, technocrats, and others.

During the inspection, Mr Dagba and his team observed numerous worrying conditions including poor sanitation, dilapidated market structures, and inadequate security measures.

These challenges, he stated, were not only hampering economic activity but also posing health and safety risks to both traders and customers.

On revenue collection, Mr Dagba urged all revenue collectors to intensify their efforts to eliminate lax attitudes, cautioning against what he described as ‘familiarity spirits’ which often undermine the efficiency of tax collection.

“Akatsi South needs several developments, and these internally generated funds can also do something. Hence, the need to be serious in the collection of these taxes,” he said.

He also reassured the revenue collectors of his commitment to ensuring accountability and strict monitoring of their operations.

Earlier, Mr Dagba after his swearing-in, MCE has since been engaging developers, business entities, institutions, and individuals on ways to put the Municipality on the right path of development.
