Dormaa-Ahenkro (Bono), May 28, GNA – Mr Dominic Adomah Ameyaw, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, has appealed to the Brong-Ahafo Catholic Cooperative Society for Development (BACCSOD) to promote the growth of local businesses to spur rapid socio-economic growth and development.

However, he lauded the immense contributions of the Society in impacting positively on business growth and economic development.

Mr Ameyaw made the appeal when speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Society at Dormaa-Ahenkro and urged the Board of Directors (BODs) to also sympathize with customers unable to pay back their loans.

It was attended by some staff, shareholders, cooperatives as well as customers of society.

Mr Ameyaw urged the BODs to improve the condition of service of the staff and motivate them to work hard.

Mr Kwame Appiah, the Board Chairman of the BACCSOD, said the deposit, savings, investments and funds of customers and shareholders were always guaranteed, and expressed concern about inflationary pressures, regulatory shifts and economic uncertainty.

Despite the challenges, he added that the BACCSOD, had remained resilient, responsive and resourceful, saying the society witnessed a significant increase in its total assets and total deposits.

“That indicates that the customers are seeing BACCSOD not just as a financial institution, but a trustworthy partner in their journey toward financial independence”, he stated, saying “that also reflects the confidence that customers have in society”.

Earlier in a welcoming address, Mr Emmanuel Adu Agyemang, the Board Secretary of BACCSOD, said the AGM was a significant event that provided an opportunity to assess the society’s performance over the past year.

It further seeks to review the stewardship of the Board and Management, and to make key decisions that will shape the direction of the society, he added and said, “in the face of economic uncertainties and regulatory challenges BACCSOD continues standing strong”.

Mr Agyemang said through prudent management, innovation and collective effort, the society had recorded positive strides in financial performance, membership growth and community development impact and remained committed to doing more.

The Reverend Father Raphael Amoako Tawiah, the BACCSOD Diocesan Manager, explained that plans to establish a Society in Dormaa Ahenkro was mooted by the late Reverend Father James Kwadwo Owusu in 1973 with the vision to alleviate poverty.

He said the society was now 47 years old since it was established at Dormaa-Ahenkro, saying it had 81 offices in the Bono Region and more than 400 staff.
