Accra, May 20, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has embarked on a massive decongestion exercise to reclaim the city’s streets and improve urban mobility.
The exercise which aims at removing street traders and vendors from the city’s pavements and roads, seeks to promote a safer and more organized environment.
Led by Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, Mayor of Accra, officials and the taskforce team engaged the traders on the need to vacate the pavements and roads.
The exercise focused on areas surrounding the AMA Head Office, including Kinbu Road to Railways, Makola, Rawlings Park, and Opera Square through to Adabraka.
While some people have raised concerns about the impact on livelihoods and the potential displacement of vulnerable traders, the decongestion drive offers an opportunity to transform the Central Business District into a more modern and efficient city.
Here are some scenes captured by Ghana News Agency from the exercise.
