Sunyani, (Bono), May 13, GNA – Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister, has reaffirmed his commitment to tackle the growing activities of Fulani nomads, and illegal mining in parts of the region.

He said the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) was collaborating with security services to crack down on the illegal miners and the Fulani herdsmen who used their cattle to destroy people’s properties in the farming communities and to protect the region’s vegetative and forest covers.

Mr Akwaboa gave the assurance when he interacted with some members of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Sunyani, including some regional executives.

The GJA paid courtesy call to the regional minister to congratulate him and thanked him for honouring the invitation to attend a forum organised by the Association to mark the 2025 World Press Freedom Day in Sunyani.

Mr Akwaboa said an increase in illegal mining activities, particularly at Banda in the Banda District of the region, was disturbing and highlighted the destructive impact of cattle herding on farmlands and thereby affecting the economic livelihoods of many farmers.

He warned those engaged in illegal mining activities to stop the bad environmental practice, assuring that the REGSEC would soon clamp down on them. Mr Akwaboa urged the media to remain circumspect, adhere to ethical standards, and tried to put a spotlight on the numerous economic potentials in the region to woo investments, and urged them to always endeavour to cross check their facts.
