Tegbi-Ashiata (VR), March 12, GNA – Mr. Ephraim Dodzi Jumpah, the Assembly Member of Tegbi-Ashiata Electoral Area in the Anloga district of the Volta Region, has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in the area.
According to him, the area has witnessed a significant rise in criminal activities, leaving residents in a state of fear and panic.
Mr. Jumpah, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, lamented the frequent stealing of motorcycles, breaking into people’s rooms, and stealing of farm produce, which had not only caused financial losses to the victims but also eroded the sense of security and trust among the community members.
“Some few weeks ago, a group of motor riders stormed my house, chanting war songs in a protest against constant stealing of their bike by unknown thieves which they threatened to take the law into their hand which l resisted,” Mr. Jumpah said.
He emphasised that the situation required immediate attention from the relevant authorities and called on the police and other security agencies to step up their efforts to combat crime in the area while urging the community members to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
He said that rising insecurity in Tegbi-Ashiata electoral area had also raised concerns about the impact on the local economy with many farmers reporting that their farm produce were being stolen and could lead to food shortage and economic losses while the situation could also affect the local transportation business, as many motorcycles have been stolen.
“Just this week, a teacher at Tegbi Kpota Aklamatsi under my electoral area complained to me about how some unknown thieves broke into his room and stole her belongings and GH₵3,000 in her absence, which is disheartening situation.”
He said that the disturbing situation continued daily while a report has been lodged at the Anloga police station for investigation and called for a more proactive approach to addressing security concerns in the area.
The Assembly Member’s call for improved security measures has also been supported by the local traditional authorities, residents, stakeholders among others who also appealed to the government to provide more resources to the security agencies to enable them to effectively combat crime in the area.
