Kasseh, March 25, GNA —The Pentecost Preparatory School, in Kasseh, Ada East District, has undertaken a clean-up exercise in the township as part of its environmental care campaign initiative.
The initiative was organised by the Church of Pentecost, Kasseh District, in collaboration with Pentecost Social Services (PENTSOS).
The exercise aimed to clear waste in the township, including the gutters, lorry station, and health facilities, saw participation by the students, teachers, and residents.
Mr Henry Daaruzie Naab, headmaster of the school, appealed to Zoomlion Company Limited to frequently empty a community refuse container that was overflowing as residents dumped their garbage on the ground.
Mr Naab said instead of relocating it as some residents were calling for, it should be kept well, and residents should desist from dumping it on the floor.
Miss Peace Agbobalah, a student of Pentecost Preparatory School, highlighted the health risks posed by the waste container, which is located close to the school kitchen and eatery.
She expressed concerns that flies could transfer diseases from waste to their food, creating a serious health threat.
“The Zoomlion workers are doing a tremendous job, but issues with their salaries are preventing them from working effectively,” she added and appealed to authorities to ensure better remuneration for the workers to encourage diligence in keeping the environment clean.
Miss Annabel Akufo Zotorvie, another student, lamented that they “cannot even enjoy our meals in peace because of the stench from the container.”
Some residents told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the presence of the waste container led to the closure of some shops in the area, affecting local businesses and making life difficult for residents.
