Sefwi-Wiawso (WN/R), May 16, GNA – The Western North Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has held a stakeholder meeting to discuss strategies for preventing a potential cholera outbreak during the upcoming rainy season.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Regional Education Directorate, Environmental Health Department, selected media houses, as well as staff and management of the Regional GHS.

In her address, Madam Patience Ofosu-Hemaa of the Regional Health Promotion Department urged the media to use their platforms to support public education efforts on cholera prevention. She emphasised that media involvement would be instrumental in encouraging community members to adopt acceptable guidelines for good hygiene practices.

“Because the public trusts the media, we appeal to you to help educate them on the dos and don’ts to avoid a cholera outbreak as the rainy season approaches,” she said.

Mr. Abubakari Abudaidal, Regional Health Promotion Manager, recommended the formation of community-based committees to lead public sensitisation efforts against cholera.

Participants at the meeting pledged their commitment to supporting awareness campaigns to help safeguard public health in the region.
