Nkroful (W/R), March 3, GNA â Mr Jonas Kabutey, Speaker of the Nzema-East Youth Parliament, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to expedite processes and name the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to fast-track development at the local level.
He said the delay in the nomination of MMDCEs was not making way for the effective running of the various Assemblies, hence the need to name them to advance local governance.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, Mr Kabutey said the absence of political heads at the various Assemblies had slowed development, saying; âEffective running of the Assemblies have been at a snail pace as the MMDCEs would have taken bolder decisions to spearhead rapid development in across the various districts.â
He, thus, asked the President to hasten consultations on the appointment of the MMDCEs to assume full responsibility for effective delivery of development.
He said: âI think Constituency Executives and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress, should have started the selection process of MMDCEs early as soon as the party was declared winner of the December 7, 2024, Presidential election.â
Mr Kabutey said as politicians, the MMDCEs shared the manifesto of the NDC and would work to actualize the President’s vision of resetting the country.
