Tempane (U/E), March 16, GNA – As part of activities marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a quiz competition for basic schools in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region.

The competing schools included the Redemption Presbyterian Junior High School, Kpikpira junior high school, Tempane Junior High School, and Bareboaka Junior High School.

Speaking at the event, Mr Martin Mumuni, the Tempane District Director of the NCCE s introductory remarks, said the quiz contest was based on the Commission’s flagship theme, “Ghana’s future: our collective responsibility,” as part of efforts to mark this year’s Independence Day.

He noted that the exercise was crucial in enhancing knowledge of the younger generation to comprehend their position in nation-building and the values embodied in the 1992 Constitution.

He emphasized that the quiz contest was an important invention that helped to foster a sense of patriotism and national consciousness, stimulate active engagement in civic duties and government, and provide a platform for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.

Mr Joseph Abugre Atogyine, the Tempane Coordinating Director, admonished the students to learn hard and be disciplined, stressing that education was key to their future and progress.

He thanked the teachers for preparing the students for the contest and encouraged them to continue teaching in rural areas for their effort to help build the country.

At the end of the competition, the NCCE with funding support from the Tempane District Assembly awarded the competing schools with exercise books, mathematical sets, and football each to the schools.
