Juaso (Ash), March 07, GNA – Juaso Model Junior High School has emerged winners of this year’s independence anniversary quiz in Asante-Akim South after beating off competition from five other schools.
The quiz, which was put together by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), is an annual competition to commemorate Ghana’s independence anniversary.
Other schools who took part in the competition were Juaso Liberty Academy, Juaso Methodist JHS, Juaso Presby JHS, Juaso Roman Catholic JHS and Juaso Ghana Muslim Mission JHS.
Mr Patrick Asare, Acting Municipal Director of NCCE, said the competition sought to test the knowledge of pupils on the 1992 Constitution, while instilling a sense of nationalism in them.
He said it was important for pupils to appreciate the Ghana’s history, heritage, and achievements as young people.
Mr. Asare further stated that, the quiz also sought to promote the civic awareness of the participants by exposing them to their rights, responsibilities, and roles in shaping Ghana’s future.
Mr Victor Obuobi, an Assistant Director of NCCE, sensitised the schools on the mandate of the Commission.
“The Commission has the mission to promote, sustain democracy and inculcate in the citizenry the awareness of their rights and obligations through civic education,” he told the pupils.
Ms Elizabeth Davis, the Municipal Director of Education, encouraged the pupils to read their books in order to acquire more knowledge to be useful to themselves and society someday.
She admonished them to use their time wisely and stay away from bad company or risked jeopardising their future.
All the participating schools received certificates, a pocket size constitution, story books and a constitution game board.
