Accra, July 15, GNA – The Independent Vetting and Elections Committee for the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has released the list of candidates cleared to contest Saturday’s elective congress, including incumbent President Frederick Lartey Otu, who is seeking a third term in office.

Otu was approved to contest for a third term and would face Charles Tsibo Cromwell in the presidential election scheduled for July 18, 2026, at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The presidential contest is expected to be one of the most closely watched races of the congress as delegates elect a new executive board to steer the affairs of the federation for the next four years.

Three candidates—Hamidu Abdel-Fatao, Martin Prince Oppong and Maxwell Theodore Alornyo—have also been cleared to contest the vice-presidential position.

Several other candidates would compete for places on the federation’s executive board.

A total of 27 delegates are expected to vote in the elections, which are expected to shape the future direction of taekwondo in Ghana, with a focus on grassroots development, international competitiveness and athlete welfare.

The elections are being supervised by an Independent Vetting and Elections Committee chaired by Lawrence Osei-Boateng of the Ghana Free Zones Authority.

Other members of the committee are Ghana Olympic Committee Secretary-General Mohammed Muniru Kassim and Hussein Akueteh Addy of the National Sports Authority, while Cynthia Wintima serves as secretary to the committee.
