College Principal implores President Mahama to maintain trainee allowances

Bechem, (Ahafo), Mar. 10, GNA – The Reverend Father Martin Yaw Agyei, the Acting Vice Principal, and Chaplain of the Bechem St Joseph College of Education (JOSCO) in the Ahafo Region has implored President John Dramani Mahama’s government to maintain the teachers’ and nurses’ training allowances.

He emphasised that scrapping the allowances would bring serious economic burden on some parents and vulnerable trainees who depended on those allowances for their upkeep and training needs.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Region, Rev Fr Agyei the allowances remain supportive to the upkeep and meeting the education needs of some trainees from poor families.

He said that allowances ought to be increased too, describing it as woefully inadequate, unable to cater the needs of the trainees.

Rev Fr Agyei advised the trainees to use the allowances judiciously and learn hard to justify the investments the nation and their parents were being invested in them.
