GACC trains LANets in Western Region to enhance audit recommendation monitoring

Takoradi, Feb. 21, GNA – The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has trained members of the Local Accountability Networks (LANets) in three districts in the Western Region.

The training which is part of the “Building Evidence for Increased Accountability in Ghana,” project is supported by the Hewlett Foundation, aimed to strengthen the capacity of the networks to effectively monitor the implementation of audit recommendations.

The beneficiary districts are Nzema East, Ellembelle, and Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western Region.

Madam Dorcas Tenkorang, Assistant Programmes Officer, at GACC who facilitated the training said members would be equipped with essential skills to collate and analyse infractions from the 2023 Auditor-General’s Report, with a specific focus on district assembly audit reports.

The Management and Utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund and Other Statutory Funds and accounts of District Assemblies for the Financial Year.

She said the goal of the initiative was to empower citizen groups to enhance accountability, promote transparency, monitor audit implementation, and strengthen advocacy at the grassroots levels.

The members would leverage on the Auditor-General’s Report, follow up on audit recommendation implementation, and engage Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) effectively.

“By this LANets are positioned to drive local-level change and ensure responsible governance.”

Mr. Ernest Buah, a broadcaster and member of LANets said the knowledge learnt would enhance his education and awareness drive on the airwaves.
