Ho, Jan. 28 GNA – The Ziope Traditional Council has directed all cattle owners to move their cattle from the traditional area with immediate effect.
This was contained in a letter signed by Torgbuiga Kpechi Binah-Lawluvi VII, the Paramount Chief of Ziope Traditional Area and President of Ziope Traditional Council and addressed to all cattle owners in the area.
The letter with the heading “Directive to remove cattle from Ziope Traditional Area,” and copied to Togbui Vizaze Adzaho V and Togbui Kporku IV, the Awadada and Dusi Fia respectfully of Ziope Traditional Area, was also copied to the Ghana News Agency for onward broadcast.
Torgbuiga Binah-Lawluvi in the letter stated that “the limited land space of the Traditional Area is designed for the cultivation of vegetables and crops and not for cattle keeping.”
He said the Traditional Council had received a series of complaints from the people of the area about the destruction of their crops by cattle.
Torgbuiga Binah-Lawluvi mentioned some of the communities greatly affected by the destruction of the cattle such as Wudesi, Silandra, Kpota, Vedome, Adzorvi, Dutsiedu, Longorlor and their adjoining communities.
“The Council verified the complaints and to our utmost surprise, not only vegetables and food crops are being destroyed but also water bodies,” he stated.
The President of the Council noted that after a series of warnings from Unit Committee members and Assemblymen had fallen on death ears, they had no other alternative than to come out with the present directive.
He stressed that the Council would take disciplinary action against anybody who refused to comply with its directive.
Torgbuiga Binah-Lawluvi called on Chiefs, Unit Committee members, Assemblymen and the citizenry to be vigilant and protect farms and water bodies and ensure the strict enforcement of the directive.
