Agogo (Ash), Jan. 22, GNA – Students have been counseled to make the fear of God and integrity cardinal principles of their lives as young people destined to assume leadership of the country soon.
Reverend Captain Michael Yao Foli, Founder of Back to the Rock Ministry, said those two principles could guide the steps of students as they transitioned to leadership roles in the context of national development.
He gave the advice when he joined students of Agogo State College for church service as part of tour of Senior High Schools by the Ministry to spread the gospel and mentor the students to become responsible citizens.
Counselling sessions were also held to guide students on steps to take to overcome both spiritual and physical challenges confronting them.
Rev. Foli emphasised the importance of encouraging the youth to embrace God in the face of the deteriorating moral fabric of society, which was fueling the craze for wealth at all costs.
“We believe that the needs of the youth are not being met in churches and that is why we are taking steps to engage young people in Senior High Schools with tailor-measured messages to shape their lives,” he told the Ghana News Agency after the church service.
The initiative to target students, according to him, was influenced by Psalm 11:3 which states that “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
Rev. Foli explained that the youth were the foundation of the country and if they were allowed to go wayward, the future of this great nation would be in jeopardy.
“This is why we are trying to rebuild the foundation in our own small way by showing the young ones the right path to follow,” he stated.
He said it was disheartening that the adults who were supposed to lead by example were rather misleading the youth into believing that amassing wealth through any means was a yardstick for success.
“At the national level, we are praising and exalting rich people without questioning their source of wealth so the youth are seeing this and thinking that you must be rich to make a mark, and as a result we are having all sorts of social vices in society,” he noted.
He therefore reminded the youth that beyond the riches was judgment and implored them to embrace honest labour as a civic responsibility.
Pastor Bruno Nyarko, Chaplain of the School, applauded the Ministry for impacting the lives of the students with live-changing and transformative messages.
He said the visit of Rev. Foli and his team had been a blessing for the student body and was hopeful that most of them would turn over new leaves after the encounter.
