Twifo Praso (C/R), Dec 20, GNA -The Twifo Atti Morkwa District office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Environmental Health Office of the Central Region, and the Food and Drugs Authority are clamping down on expired goods in the district, just in time for a seamless Yuletide.
This collaborative effort is to wipe out expired products and ensure public health and safety.
Mr Richmond Addae Marfo, the NADMO Coordinator, said two exercises had already been conducted this year, which saw expired food items and medicines being destroyed.
The joint operations this festive season, would also target counterfeit products, he said, and advised shop owners to remove such products from their shelves to avoid penalties.
Mr Addae Marfo noted that expired goods had been linked to health complications, including kidney problems, and urged Ghanaians to be vigilant when purchasing food and drug products, especially during the Christmas season.
“Such products would be sold cheap to the unsuspecting public, so everyone must be cautious,” he said.
Some store owners and traders urged buyers to avoid roadside purchases and opt for accredited stores where products are secured and approved by the FDA.
