Takoradi, Dec. 28, GNA — The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has debunked claims that commercial activities will be restricted within some parts of the Metropolis to pave way for the final funeral rites of the late Takoradi Amanful Chief on Saturday, December 28.

The Assembly, in a statement issued by Management and copied to the Ghana News Agency, has asked residents to disregard such information saying, the traditional council had neither engaged the Assembly nor the security agencies on the funeral arrangements of the late chief.

The statement said: “Considering the busy commercial activities associated with the Christmas festivities, social events planned for the period and the related security implications, the Assembly and the security agencies cannot endorse any decision to restrict commercial activities within the period.”

The statement stressed that the traditional council would proceed with the funeral as planned, shops be opened for commercial activities, and public events scheduled for the festive season would all proceed as planned.

“The security agencies, as usual, are on standby to ensure peace and order, and the public is assured of the Assembly’s commitment to ensure adequate peace and security during the yuletide in the Metropolis,” it added.
