Ho (V/R), Dec. 20, GNA – The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Basic School in Ho has donated items to the children’s ward of the Ho Municipal Hospital as part of its commitment to giving back to society and bringing smiles to the faces of children.

The school’s management emphasised that community service is a core mandate of the institution, aimed at instilling the value of generosity in its students.

Mr. Seth Korgah, Head of the School, highlighted the importance of teaching children to prioritize giving back to society rather than amassing wealth solely for themselves.

“When they become leaders, we want them to be individuals who give back to society. Many of our lessons teach them to love their neighbors, give selflessly, and expect nothing in return,” he said during the donation on Wednesday, December 18.

He added that donation is a practical way to reinforce classroom teachings on social responsibility.

The school has made giving back an annual tradition. Mr. Korgah noted that the initiative began two years ago with donations to an orphanage and children affected by the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

“In the past, support orphanages. Last year, we donated items to children who lost their belongings due to the dam spillage. This year, we are here donating items like food, cash, toiletries, clothing, and more to support the hospital,” he said.

He called on well-meaning Ghanaians to join in supporting such initiatives.

“This Christmas, not every child has the privilege of receiving gifts or celebrating with family. Let’s come together to put smiles on their faces,” he appealed.

Madam Hadijatu Maudey, Nurse-in-Charge of the Children’s Ward, expressed her gratitude for the donation, which included essential items such as clothing, diapers, toiletries, food, and drinks.

“This donation is a blessing, especially for mothers who come here with financial challenges. These items will greatly benefit them and their children,” she said.

However, she appealed for more donations to address the ward’s infrastructural needs, such as curtains, adjustable beds, and other essential equipment.

“While we are grateful for these donations, the ward itself has pressing needs. For instance, many cubicles lack curtains, and some beds are old and need replacement. We hope for support that will improve the facility’s sustainability,” she said.

She encouraged future donors to focus on items that will leave a lasting impact on the ward’s operations.

After visiting the Children’s Ward, the school proceeded to the Child Welfare Clinic at the hospital, where they donated additional items to children and their mothers.

Madam Tsoekem Adza, Nurse-in-Charge of the Clinic, expressed her appreciation and highlighted the need for more support, such as chairs for mothers visiting the clinic.

“We are grateful for the kind gesture. However, we also appeal for items like chairs and other essentials to improve the clinic’s services,” she said.

The donation initiative reflects UHAS Basic School’s dedication to community service and fostering a culture of generosity among its students.
