Accra, Dec 6, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has called on the public to remain calm and not be alarmed by the movement of military personnel in their communities during the December 7 elections.
The GAF made the call as it announced the deployment of personnel to designated locations to support the Ghana Police Service (GPS) in ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
In a statement signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quarshie, Director-General of Public Relations, the GAF encouraged all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace.
The statement reiterated, “no military personnel will be stationed at any polling station.” Instead, the GAF’s role will remain limited to standby support, with election security primarily under the purview of the Police Service. Military personnel will only be deployed upon request by the police, GAF noted.
The GAF reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s stability, protecting the integrity of the electoral process, and ensuring that the elections are conducted smoothly and peacefully.
