Accra, Dec 6, GNA – The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public that the December 7 elections in the Afadjato South Constituency will proceed, adding, it will not be compromised in any way.
The assurance followed an incident where a District Electoral Officer was found transporting election materials in a private vehicle without the mandated police escort, a violation of the EC’s transportation policy.
In a statement signed by Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, the EC confirmed that the police had since taken custody of the materials.
The Commission’s policy requires “all election materials to be transported in official vehicles with police escort where necessary,” the statement said.
The police have questioned the officer involved, and the EC has launched its own internal investigation into the incident.
