I am more than committed to the peace of this nation – Speaker Bagbin

Accra, Nov 15, GNA – Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has reiterated his commitment to Ghana’s peace and stability.

“I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” the Speaker stated when the leadership of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) paid a courtesy call on him at Parliament House in Accra.

A statement issued by the Media Relations Directorate of Parliament, copied to the Ghana News Agency said the GNACOPS courtesy call on the Speaker was to promote peace and unity during the 2024 election.

It said the GNACOPS Delegation which consists of teachers and pupils from some selected private schools was led by Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of GNACOPS.

It noted that the Delegation entreated the Speaker to use his influence in this crucial time in Ghana’s democracy to promote peace before, during and after the elections.

They praised the Speaker for his exemplary achievements and for showing the youth that peaceful coexistence is the true haul mark of a democratic society.

Speaker Bagbin assured GNACOPS of free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections.

He also stated that as part of the 30-years of Ghana’s Parliamentary Democracy Celebrations, he organised a seminary lecture in Tamale where experts were brought in to get everyone on board to appreciate the value of peace in the country.

Speaker Bagbin also mentioned the introduction of the democracy cup initiative where the passion of the nation football was used as a tool to spread the message of peace.

“The foundation of life is peace,” Speaker Bagbin said.

He congratulated GNACOPS for adding their voice to the peace initiative and for instilling this message in the learners from a youthful age for they are the future leaders of this nation.
