Trump says Biden tries to ‘hold back’ Netanyahu

Washington, Oct 20 (dpa/GNA) – US Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has accused President Joe Biden of failing to adequately support Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during wartime.

Speaking to reporters in Michigan on Friday, Trump said of Netanyahu: “He’s doing a good job. Biden is trying to hold him back … and he probably should be doing the opposite.”

Trump said he was glad that Netanyahu “decided to do what he had to do,” though he did not explain exactly what he meant by that.

Following the killing of Hamas leader Yehya al-Sinwar, the US government, as Israel’s main ally, sees a chance for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militant organization Hamas, and is pushing for negotiations.

For Biden, navigating Middle East policy is a tricky political issue, with the US presidential elections less than three weeks away. On the one hand, the Democratic president has called on Israel to protect civilians in the conflict, but at the same time, US military support for Israel remains unchanged.

Trump is set to face off against Biden’s vice president, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, on November 5.
