Accra, Aug. 1, GNA-A historical novel that unearths happenings leading to the rise of the Ashanti Empire during the pre-colonial era is to be outdoored in October this year.
Titled, “The Usurper’s Dream” the 340-page book delves into the role of Yaa Asantewaa, the era of Osei Tutu, the first king of what would become the Ashanti Empire and the times when there was belief in magic and gods through the lens of its characters.
The Book is expected be launched on October 1, 2022 at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Mr Yeayi Kobina, the Author of the Book, said the Usurper’s Dream combined all the elements of pre- colonial legend, adventure, and history in describing the lives of its heroes.
Many aspects of the book, he explained, were actual places and events captured through a fictional lens, giving readers an entry into the world of the legends of Africa mythology.
Mr Kobina said the Book is the first of five books exploring the coming into being of one of Africa’s prominent kingdoms; the Ashanti empire.
He stated that the Book detailed how Osei Tutu struggled to free the people of Kwaaman from the clutches of Denkyira, and Okomfo Anokye, the oracle of the gods with mythical magic powers who was eager “to make his mark.”
“The two are bound by fate forged from a quest for freedom, power and faith,” he said.
