Anawoekorpe (V/R) Jul 02, GNA–International Needs Ghana (INGH), a Non-governmental organization, has recommissioned a new state-of-the-art computer laboratory for the United Methodist Basic School at Anawoekope, North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The intervention is part of planned activities of the International Needs Child Assistance Programme (INCAP) which among others contributes to the holistic development of children and the transformation of their communities.
The manager for the education programme, Rev Quarcoo, said, “True to our core values of INGH, we are giving all learners in the school the same opportunity their colleagues in the cities have so they can develop holistically and compete in the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) he stated.
Reverend Isaac Quarcoo informed that the current curriculum for basic schools required both learners and teachers to do a lot of research work hence the need for the ICT lab.
In a speech, the education directorate also indicated the contribution of the INGH to improving the learning outcomes of learners within the district.
The Human Resource Director, Mr Havor, mentioned the support provided by INGH to Anaewokope Basic School and 3 other schools. “Over the years INGH has closely collaborated with the directorate to provide this school building and other relevant teaching and learning materials to improve access, retention and transition in this school. Last year, they support the school with a fully furnished library.
My officers on the ground reliably inform me that it is contributing to the reading abilities of the students. “Today the education office is happy the school has a new set of computers. It will facilitate the teaching and learning of ICT lessons and research work. It is our expectation that this will continue to contribute to improved learning outcomes in this school.
The Volta Regional Director for Methodist Education Unit also appreciated INGH for the intervention and encouraged the students as well as the teachers to take ICT studies serious because of its importance in the world today.
Parents, community leaders, education directorate, teachers and learners present expressed their excitement for the intervention and promised to provide the needed assistance to ensure the computer lab is used as an effective tool for teaching and learning in the school.
International Needs Ghana also supports the holistic development of over 5000 children annually in the area of education, Health, Life Skills & Social and Spiritual development.
In the North Tongu District, International Needs Ghana supports four schools namely; Kanuwloe D/A Basic School, Lasivenu D/A Basic School, Mepe Holy Christ School and Anawoekope United Methodist Basic school.
