Koforidua, Jan. 15, GNA – Traders in Koforidua have urged the new government to be considerate in order not to increase fuel prices and utility bills any time soon.
These increases trigger a rise in the prices of food commodities and occur because a rise in energy prices leads to a surge in transportation costs, which may raise food marketing and subsidiary costs.
Food marketing costs, such as those associated with food processing, packaging, and distribution, might further increase retail food prices.
During an interview with the Ghana News Agency, a group of traders shared their thoughts on several topics related to the recent nomination of Ministers-Designate for the Ministries of Energy, Finance, and the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
President John Dramani Mahama nominated Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister-Designate for Finance, Mr. John Jinapor as Minister-Designate for Energy, and Dr. Dominic Ayine as Attorney General and Minister-Designate for Justice, all of whom have since gone through parliamentary vetting pending approval by the house.
Mr. Francis Ayensu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Elections Director for the New Juaben South constituency, commended the new government for choosing devoted and experienced individuals.
He noted that Dr. Forson, having previously served as Deputy Finance Minister, would help improve Ghana’s financial status.
Mr. Jinapor and Dr. Ayine, both former Deputy Ministers in their respective ministries, are competent enough to keep Ghana on track, he added.
“I’m optimistic that they will successfully go through the vetting and become substantial Ministers,” he said.
Mr. Emmanuel Odoom, a key industry player in Justice, encouraged collective thinking and the avoidance of individualism.
“When it is time for decision-making, all the Ministers should think collectively and share ideas among themselves to find the best option,” he added.
