Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz is only female MP-elect in Northern Region

Tamale, Dec 09, GNA – Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, a Presidential Staffer, who ran on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to be the only female Member of Parliament from the Northern Region to serve in the ninth Parliament of the country. 

This followed her victory in Saturday’s parliamentary elections in the Savelugu Constituency where she polled 27,450 votes to beat her closest challenger, who is the incumbent on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who polled 24,877 votes. 

Madam Felicia Tettey, who was the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Sagnarigu Constituency lost to Mr. Attah Issah, a new entrant, who contested the seat on the ticket of the NDC. 

Meanwhile, Alhaji Hardi Tuferu, a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, would not be in the Ninth Parliament after losing the parliamentary race to Dr Abdul-Khalid Sherif of the NDC. 

Alhaji Fawaz Aliu, a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, lost the Zabzugu parliamentary race to the NDC’s Alhassan Umar. 

Musah Abdul-Aziz Ayaba, Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture and the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament for Mion, lost his bid after polling 18,066 votes. 

He was defeated by the NDC’s Misbahu Mahama Adams, who polled 20,273 votes. 

Alhaji Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama, the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament for Yendi lost his bid for reelection as he was defeated by Mr Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan of the NDC, who polled 30,770 votes as against 30,441 votes by Alhaji Mahama. 

Mr. Dominic Nitiwul, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Alhassan Suhuyini, Murtala Mohammed, Professor Hamza Adam have all retained their seats at Bimbilla, Tamale South, Tamale North, Tamale Central and Kumbungu in that order.
