Accra, Dec. 7, GNA – Mr. Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency in the 2024 parliamentary election, says he is hopeful about his chances of winning the seat.
The constituency, with a voter population exceeding 140,000, has been dominated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since its creation in 2012, following its split from the Weija-Gbawe Constituency.
The NPP won the parliamentary seat in the last election with a commanding 30,000-vote lead, securing 65.2 percent of the vote.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after casting his vote at the Nii Okaiman East Electoral Area, Mr. Allotey expressed optimism about his second bid for the seat.
He said that the “positive feedback” he has received from voters had given him the confidence that he could secure a historic win for the NDC in the constituency.
“I am highly optimistic that I will win the seat. The people of Anyaa-Sowutuom are fed up with the NPP who have occupied the seat for 24 years.
“Look at the bad road and drainage systems in various communities, you can clearly see that the people are fed up and eager for change,” he told the GNA.
When asked about his observations of the election process so far, Mr. Allotey remarked, “There are a few issues with the BVD machines not functioning properly, and I urge the Electoral Commission to address these concerns promptly to ensure voters are able to cast their ballots without delay.”
Mr. Allotey is contesting the seat against Elder Tobbin, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, a well-regarded entrepreneur and philanthropist who enjoys strong support in the constituency.
