All 49 members of the Assembly voted yes to approve Mr. Salifu in an exercise supervised by the Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Prior to his nomination, Mr. Salifu served as the Deputy Constituency Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is widely regarded as a principled and effective leader, expected to bring strong leadership and administrative competence to the role.
Addressing the media after the vote, Mr. Salifu expressed deep gratitude for the unanimous endorsement and noted that the support came with a great responsibility to deliver on the expectations of the people.
“This overwhelming endorsement is a symbol of unity that I intend to build on. It is encouraging that all Assembly Members, regardless of political affiliation, came together for the good of the Municipality,” he stated.
The newly confirmed MCE pledged to work in a non-partisan manner and committed to pursuing development projects across the Municipality.
He also affirmed his dedication to completing all ongoing projects initiated by the previous administration, in line with the President’s directive to ensure continuity in governance.
“These projects were funded with public resources and must be completed for the benefit of the people of Bekwai,” he emphasised.
Mr. Salifu further expressed his commitment to responsible mining practices, stressing that under his leadership, no mining activity would be allowed to endanger water bodies or forest reserves.
