E-Levy sensitization is progressing in Bono East, ISD Director

Techiman (BE/R) May 25, GNA – The sensitisation of Ghanaians about the importance of the Electronic Transfers Levy (E-Levy) by the Information Services Department (ISD) is progressing in the Bono East Region.

Mr Paul Desmond Tutu, the Regional Director of ISD, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Techiman that the campaign was ongoing in the four municipalities and seven districts in the region to throw more light on its benefits to the people.

The Government of Ghana passed the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) Act 2022, Act 1075 with effect from May 1, 2022, imposing a levy of 1.50 per cent on electronic money transfers.

This initiative, being implemented by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is meant to broaden the tax net base in the country to generate more revenue for the accelerated socio-economic growth of the country.

Mr. Tutu said as stipulated in the Act, everyone would be able to make money transfer through mobile money of up to GhC100.00 a day without paying the levy, adding if one put money on one’s own wallet, there would be no tax on it.

He explained the sensitization process, saying it involved cinema outreach programmes in the communities, visitations to churches and mosques and education on community information centres.
