Accra, Nov. 6, GNA – Two Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Empower Aid Initiatives, based in Gomoa Nyanyano, and Eye of God Foundation, in the United States of America, have donated educational materials to pupils of the MEWE StarChild School Complex at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The donation, made in collaboration, forms part of efforts by the organisations to promote quality education in communities, particularly rural and fishing communities across the Central Region.
A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency said the items included textbooks, exercise books, school bags, pens, pencils, mathematical sets and other educational accessories.
It said the beneficiaries were selected based on their academic performance, with two outstanding pupils from each class, from Basic One to the Junior High School level, receiving the support.
The statement said MEWE StarChild School Complex is recognised for its emphasis on academic excellence and discipline within the Gomoa Nyanyano area.
“The school also offers free basic Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) lessons in areas such as makeup, barbering, bead-making, catering, tailoring and hairdressing”
“It additionally provides free Spanish lessons alongside French and Fante, while promoting activities such as spelling competitions to improve pupils’ language and literacy skills,” it added.
It stressed that the school has also awarded scholarships to several brilliant but financially disadvantaged pupils to support their education.
Mrs Susana Amponsah, Head of the School Management, expressed appreciation to the organisations for their commitment to supporting schools within the Nyanyano circuit, stating that the gesture would motivate beneficiaries to remain focused and disciplined in their academic pursuits.
She urged the pupils to take their studies seriously and avoid practices such as absenteeism, laziness in class and negative peer influence, which could undermine their academic progress.
Mrs Gloria Abena Baidoe, Team Lead of the donors, said the selection of the school followed an assessment of pupils’ academic performance over the previous terms, which she said deserved recognition and encouragement.
She expressed satisfaction with the academic and moral standards demonstrated by pupils in the community and indicated that the initiative would be extended to other schools in the area.
Mr Emmanuel Sam Brown, Leader of the Eye of God Foundation, also encouraged the beneficiaries to maintain high academic standards and uphold discipline in their daily activities.
He thanked the school management for its cooperation and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to exploring further opportunities to support the school.
