Accra, Nov. 08, GNA – Mr Joshua Ansah, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress of Ghana, has paid a glowing tribute to the late Dr Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe Addo, describing him as a labour leader whose skills and qualities were enviable.
He said the late Dr Bampoe Addo demonstrated resilience in leading his people and genuinely cared for their welfare.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the funeral rites of the twin brothers, Sidney Oko Bampoe Addo and Dr Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe Addo at the forecourt of the State House, Mr Ansah said those qualities were values that leaders at the labour front must emulate to advance the interest of workers.
“He demonstrated resilience, cared for workers and protected their interest. He was a strong character that was resolute in his approach and so we have lost a gem,” he said.
The twin brothers died within three weeks apart from each other, with Dr Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe Addo passing away on August 21, 2026, while Nii Oko Bampoe-Addo followed him on September 14, 2026.
Madam Linda Boadiwaa of the Gender Desk of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) described the late labour leader as a colossus whose legacy would endure.
She said Dr Bampoe Addo was a protector of workers’ rights and a strong voice who championed improved working conditions, adding that his demise had created a huge vacuum within the unionised labour front.
“He is going to be irreplaceable, but he had trained a lot of comrades to be brave, resilient and uncompromising, and so I believe the work surely will go on,” she said.
The two labour leaders paid their tributes as mourners gathered to honour the memory and celebrate the legacy of the late Sidney Oko Bampoe Addo and Dr Isaac Akuetteh Bampoe-Addo.
The late brothers, aged 59 and siblings of Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, the Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), were civil servants before their demise, with the eldest Oko Bampoe-Addo, rising to become a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and Dr Akuetteh Bampoe-Addo, becoming the Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).
Akuetteh Bampoe Addo’s work in the labour movement earned him recognition among organised labour stakeholders, particularly for his role in negotiations and advocacy on issues affecting public sector employees.
The funeral was attended by the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, the Governor of Bank of Ghana, Mr Seth Terkpe, Economic Advisor to the President, some other government officials, Members of Parliament and the clergy.
The solemn occasion was also brightened by displays of Ga culture, in keeping with traditions associated with the burial of twins as the funeral was attended by King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, the Paramount Chief of Nungua and his sub-chiefs and Nii Ahene Nunoo III, Paramount Chief of Abola, representing King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse.
