Moscow, Nov 6 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – The Starlink and OneWeb satellite communications services pose risks of destabilizing the socio-political situation in sovereign countries, members of the presidium of the scientific and expert Council of the Russian Security Council said on Friday.
A meeting of the members of the presidium of the scientific expert council was held on the use of the domestic low-orbit satellite communication system and Internet access in the interests of ensuring information security of Russia.
“During the meeting, the main risks and threats of using Western space communication systems over the territory of sovereign states to destabilize the socio-political situation were noted. First of all, this applies to the widespread satellite communications services Starlink and OneWeb, which are actively expanding in countries that are interested in accelerated digitalization of national economies,” the statement said.
Experts of the Russian Security Council believe that it is necessary to accelerate the mass production of satellites for the Russian low-orbit communications system, the statement said.
