Obuasi (Ash), Nov. 6, GNA – Dr Amo Collins, Chief Executive Officer of Obuasi Beverages Company Limited, has donated GH¢120,000 towards emergency brain surgery in India for 33-year-old Edmond Benefo, who is battling a brain tumour.
The donation, equivalent to US20,000 required to facilitate Benefo’s medical treatment and emergency surgery in India.
The intervention is expected to provide significant relief to the family, which has been struggling to raise funds to secure specialised medical care for their son.
Benefo’s health challenges reportedly began with complaints of eye problems, which progressively worsened and prompted further medical investigations.
Subsequent examinations revealed a brain tumour requiring urgent surgical intervention, making specialised treatment outside the country necessary.
His parents, Aron Benefoh and Christiana Graham, have since been appealing to individuals, organisations and the general public for financial support to raise the amount needed for the surgery.
Dr Collins’s GH¢120,000 contribution has brought the family closer to its fundraising target, although an additional US$10,000 is still required to meet the estimated cost of the treatment.
The donation highlights the role of private-sector support and individual philanthropy in complementing efforts to assist families facing critical medical emergencies.
For Benefo and his family, the contribution represents an important step towards accessing the specialised treatment needed to address his condition.
The family is appealing for further financial assistance to enable Benefo to travel to India and undergo the emergency surgery.
