Accra, Nov. 4, GNA – The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana (CGA) have commended GCB Bank PLC for its support towards Team Ghana’s participation in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The commendation was made during a courtesy call by the leadership of the GOC and CGA on Professor Joshua Alabi, the Board Chairman of GCB Bank PLC.

Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC and CGA, said the bank’s sponsorship played a significant role in Team Ghana’s preparations and logistics for the Games.

According to him, the support received from GCB Bank contributed immensely to the team’s stay in Glasgow and helped ensure a successful campaign.

Mr Akpokavie also acknowledged the presence of the bank’s marketing team at the Games, describing their engagement with athletes and officials as valuable.

He expressed optimism that the partnership would grow stronger and create opportunities for greater collaboration between the bank and Ghana’s sporting federations.

“The support from GCB Bank went a long way to make Team Ghana’s stay in Glasgow a success, and we hope this marks the beginning of a long-lasting relationship that will continue to promote sports development in the country,” he said.

Receiving the delegation, Professor Alabi thanked the GOC and CGA for the gesture and described the visit as a demonstration of appreciation for the bank’s contribution to sports development.

He noted that GCB Bank had supported several sports initiatives over the years and pledged the institution’s continued commitment to the growth of sports in Ghana.

Professor Alabi urged sports administrators and federations to support institutions that invest in sports, stressing the need for stronger partnerships between corporate organisations and the sporting sector.

He reaffirmed GCB Bank’s readiness to support national sports development as part of its corporate social responsibility and broader commitment to national development.
