Assin Fosu (C/R), Nov.06, GNA- The Assin Fosu Municipal Assembly is to embark on a massive revenue mobilisation exercise aimed at increasing its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to support developmental projects and improve the quality-of-service delivery in the municipality.
The revenue mobilisation exercise is expected to commence in earnest as the Assembly intensifies its engagement with residents, businesses and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and improved revenue collection.
The exercise targeted businesses, traders, property owners, commercial vehicle operators and other ratepayers within the municipality as part of efforts to improve revenue collection and ensure that residents meet their statutory financial obligations to the Assembly.
Areas expected to receive attention included the collection of fees for building permits, burial permits, business operating permits, property rates, market tolls and other statutory charges payable to the Assembly.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Baba Gariba Adams, made the appeal during an engagement with the media, urging traditional leaders, church leaders and other stakeholders to support the campaign and help educate the public on the importance of paying taxes and other statutory levies.
He emphasised the need for collective support to ensure effective revenue mobilisation and encourage voluntary compliance among residents and business operators.
The initiative formed part of measures to reduce the Assembly’s dependence on central government transfers and mobilise additional resources to finance local development priorities, including sanitation, road maintenance, infrastructure and other essential municipal services.
The Assembly has therefore urged residents, business operators, developers, property owners and other stakeholders to cooperate with revenue collectors and honour their tax and rate obligations.
