Wenchi, (Bono), Nov. 6, GNA-Mr Samuel Fosu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Wenchi-based Downwell Agro Ventures says agro-inputs dealers anticipate that the 2027 Budget Statement address challenges in the implementation of government’s interventions programmes in the agriculture sector.

In general, he said the government had performed creditably in stabilizing the economy, saying that President John Dramani Mahama deserved commendation for the on-going road construction projects under the ‘Big Push’ Road Infrastructure in particular.

He said the introduction of the free Primary Healthcare programme also remained a laudable health intervention programme that would advance the accessible and quality healthcare delivery services in the country.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on his expectation from the 2027 budget, Mr Fosu said that the government ought to do more in the agriculture sector to create job opportunities for the youth.

“In fact, the President’s shortfall now is in the agriculture sector and we expect that the budget will tackle challenges in the sector for economic growth and development”, he stated.

Mr Fosu noted that presently many smallholder farmers in the country were not benefiting from the government’s intervention programmes like the ‘Feed Ghana’.

He called on the government to review the programme implementation in ensuring that deserving farmers benefit from the initiative.

Mr Fosu also called on the government to introduce a weighing scale system for cereals for farmers to benefit from their hard work.

He appealed for standardized market price for maize, saying doing so would motivate farmers to engage commercial production of maize and to guarantee national food security and sufficiency.

In another interview, a farmer at Wenchi, Ofa Kojo also called on the government to ensure prompt release of the free fertilizer distribution exercise under the ‘Feed Ghana’ programme.
