Somanya (E/R), Oct. 4, GNA – Mr Francis Addo Akumatey, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, has donated GHS10, 000 to the Somanya Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to support the purchase of tyres and boost its operational readiness.
The donation was made during a send-off ceremony held in Somanya in honour of two long-serving officers of the GNFS, Divisional Officer (Rtd) Ebenezer Kofi Djabatey and Station Officer Grade One Gabriel Kofi Tettey.
Mr Akumatey said the donation fulfilled a commitment he had previously made to the Fire Service.
“Although I was unable to provide the needed assistance when the request was first brought to my attention, I pledged to contribute GH¢10,000 once I was in a position to do so,” he stated.
He noted that he believed in making commitments he could honour rather than making promises that might be difficult to fulfil.
“Keeping one’s word is not simply about making a pledge; it is a reflection of personal integrity, responsibility and respect for those who place their trust in you,” he added.
In addition to the GHS10,000, the MCE made an undisclosed cash donation to the two retired officers in recognition of their dedicated service to the nation.
He said the gesture was aimed at supporting the Service, strengthening its relationship with stakeholders, and contributing towards addressing some of the challenges confronting the institution.
Mr Akumatey congratulated the retiring officers on reaching the milestone and expressed appreciation for their years of dedicated service in protecting lives and property.
Divisional Officer Grade II Abubakar Musah, the Somanya Fire Station Commander, expressed gratitude to the Municipal Chief Executive for fulfilling his pledge and supporting the station.
He said the donation would go a long way in helping the Service acquire new tyres for its fire tender to enhance its operational readiness.
