New York, Oct 7. (dpa/GNA) – A US resident has been arrested in connection with February’s deadly shooting at a school in western Canada, authorities said on Tuesday.
The suspect was in frequent communication with the 18-year-old shooter in the six months, leading up to the attack that killed eight and injured several others, the Western District of Washington US Attorney’s office said.
US authorities said the suspect allegedly encouraged and aided the shooter’s plan, including agreeing to broadcast the attack.
The suspect had been charged with conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country, the US Justice Department said.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Acting US Attorney Neil Floyd, said the shooting was “a horrific tragedy” for the Tumbler Ridge community and for Canada.
“It is even more profoundly disturbing to learn that a resident of Western Washington had a role in the attack, and took steps, providing counsel, technical advice, and money to the shooter planning such a tragedy.”
