Cairo, Oct 7. (dpa/GNA) – Saudi air defences intercepted a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia, north of the capital Riyadh, the Saudi-led military coalition said on Wednesday.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki, said the launch platform was located near the Yemeni capital Sana’a, and would be destroyed.
Al-Maliki gave no information on possible damage or casualties. A ballistic missile launched towards Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia, was also intercepted and destroyed, al-Maliki said.
The Iran-backed Houthis have stepped up attacks on neighbouring Saudi Arabia, amid a renewed escalation of the war in Yemen.
Saudi Arabia supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government and has repeatedly carried out airstrikes against the Houthis as part of the Saudi-led military coalition.
