London, Oct 11 (dpa/GNA) – A tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, with the crew reported safe, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday.
The vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile, UKMTO said in a post on X. Iranian media also reported an incident in the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz, which is only 35 to 40 kilometres wide at its narrowest point, has become a central flashpoint between Iran and the US in the Iran war.
The strait, which is vital for global energy trade, has recently seen a resurgence in regular attacks.
Iran has largely blocked traffic in the strait since the war began at the end of February, through threats and attacks on vessels.
The US military has also attacked civilian Iranian ships.
