Tarkwa (W/R), October 14, GNA – Tilly’s Farm has launched its 2026 Porktober Programme to raise awareness of the pig production and pork processing value chain, while investing in the people who drive the industry.

Speaking at the launch, Mrs. Maame Boatemaa Hammond, Co-founder of Tilly’s Farm, said the programme focused on three key groups: smallholder pig farmers, secondary school Agric students and the wider public.

“Porktober is an important part of our annual calendar because it allows us to invest in key areas of the pork value chain. We provide refresher training for smallholder pig farmers, expose secondary school Agric students to opportunities in agriculture, and use social media to share our activities with a wider audience,” she said.

Mr. Maxwell Hammond, the Managing Director and Co-founder of Tilly’s Farm, said sustaining the pork value chain was essential to the industry’s present and future growth.

“As a business, we recognise the importance of keeping the value chain active and building capacity for the future. Porktober gives us the opportunity to do this every October,” he said.

As part of the 2026 programme, agricultural students from the Ghanata Senior High School and Achimota School would visit Tilly Farm processing facility.

He said they would also participate in a career session with experienced agricultural professionals to learn about opportunities in the sector.

Mr. Hammond further said smallholder pig farmers would receive in-depth training in biosecurity practices to strengthen farm management and disease prevention.

The Managing Director acknowledged the support of the MTN Foundation, Stanbic Bank, Kosmos Innovation Centre and the Pig Farmers Association in advancing the objectives of the Porktober Programme.

He said their involvement contributed to efforts to promote agricultural education, strengthen farmer capacity and support the development of Ghana’s pork value chain.

Porktober is a flagship annual initiative of Tilly’s Farm, a Ghanaian agro-processing business that works with a network of smallholder farmers to produce pork and pork products.

The programme strengthens the value chain through farmer training, student engagement and public education.
