Berekum, (Bono) Oct. 08, GNA-Pragya riders (tricycle) in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region have called on the government to be expeditious in addressing the concerns of teachers for them to return to the classroom.
They expressed worry that the on-going nationwide teachers’ strike had slowed down their economic activities in the Municipality and had a rippling effect on their operations.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Biadan, Mr David Asare, the Public Relations Officer at the Pragya Station, noted that the daily sales of the riders had dropped significantly since the industrial action began.
Hitherto, he explained that most of the students in the municipality used their machines to go to school, but now patronage had gone down.
Mr Antoa Semenyo, one of the Pragya riders, shared similar sentiments, calling on the government to ensure that the teachers rescind their action.
He noted that most of the riders operated under a work-and-pay arrangement with their owners, saying that the strike and the attendants’ low patronage of their services had affected their livelihoods.
