Munich, Oct 15 (dpa/GNA) – The body of a 23-year-old man has been found in a German lake, more than one year after the student went missing, police said on Thursday.
A diver from a specialist company based in Munich retrieved the body from Starnberg Lake on Wednesday. The man had been out on the lake in a boat with two friends in June 2025.
The three took turns jumping from the boat into the water. After about half an hour, the 23-year-old, who could not swim, apparently was no longer able to get back into the boat.
His two friends tried to rescue him. However, the drowning man clung so tightly to the helpers that they too got into distress and could not pull him into the boat.
The Water Rescue Service and the Starnberg water police had searched for the missing man after the alarm, using drones, search dogs and a sonar boat.
