Sunyani, (Bono), Oct. 13, GNA – Some public basic schools in the Sunyani Municipality have been recording poor attendance at the primary levels, since the teacher unions suspended the two-week nationwide strike.
However, students’ attendance at the Junior High Schools (JHS) levels remained impressive, a Ghana News Agency (GNA) monitoring visits revealed.
As effective teaching and learning resumed on Monday, October 12, 2026, the GNA noticed that most of the classrooms of the JHSs were in full capacity.
At the Sunyani Anglican Cluster of Schools, the classrooms of Bishop Lemire Anglican Primary Division were virtually empty, however the teachers had reported to school.
The situation was quite not different at the St Anselm’s Primary and Kindergarten as a teacher spoke on condition of anonymity, said that: “Some of the learners may still be unaware that we have resumed the strike”.
Madam Georgina Badu, the Headmistress of St Anselm’s Anglican JHS noted that the headteachers and headmistresses at the clusters were always on duty during the two-week strike.
She said that the JHS students also reported to school during the period, however they studied by themselves.
Mad Badu commended the teachers for resuming the strike action and called on families to ensure that their children and wards reported in school on time to enable the teachers to recover the already lost lesson periods.
