Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – The Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC has won international recognition in the Climate Finance category at the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute-European Savings and Retail Banking Group (WSBI-ESBG) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Awards held in Bangkok, Thailand.

The award, presented on the sidelines of the 2026 International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meeting, honoured the Bank’s investment in water infrastructure projects across four communities in Ghana.

A statement from the Bank copied to the Ghana News Agency said the recognition was awarded for the Bank’s contribution towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on Clean Water and Sanitation.

The projects include mechanised borehole facilities at Adidome Senior High School and Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region, Pwalugu in the Upper East Region; and Dingoni in the Northern Region.

Implemented under the Bank’s flagship Power to Make a Difference (PMAD) initiative, the projects provide reliable access to clean water for students, school staff and community members.

The facilities, powered by solar energy and electricity, are helping to improve public health, support educational activities and enhance livelihoods in underserved communities.

Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, the Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, received the award on behalf of the Bank.

Speaking on the recognition, Dr Dzoboku said the award reflected the Bank’s commitment to ensuring that climate finance translated into meaningful benefits for people and communities.

“For us, climate finance must translate into practical benefits for people: a student who can access clean water at school, a family with a dependable water source, and a community better equipped to face environmental challenges.

“This award affirms our belief that banking should help secure a more sustainable future. We are proud to receive it on behalf of our staff, customers, partners and the communities whose lives these projects touch,” he said.

The statement said sustainability remained central to the bank’s growth strategy, with environmental, social and governance considerations integrated into its operations.

The Bank’s community investment programmes are focused on four Sustainable Development Goals: Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

The award also aligns with the broader sustainability agenda of Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL), the Bank’s parent company, the statement said

In September 2026, RFHL announced an expanded sustainable finance commitment of US$750 million by 2030 to support climate action, women-owned and women-led businesses, and agricultural enterprises across the Caribbean and Ghana.
