Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected constituency chairpersons across the country as part of efforts to renew its leadership structures and strengthen party organisation ahead of the 2028 general election.

The elections saw some incumbent chairpersons retain their positions, while other contestants emerged victorious in their respective constituencies.

In the Greater Accra Region, Mr Harry Akoto retained the Ablekuma North Constituency chairmanship after polling 1,067 votes to defeat his challenger, Mr Clifford Mensah Adjei, who secured 922 votes.

In the Volta Region, Mr Hayford Amenuvie was elected Chairman of the Adaklu Constituency with 236 votes. His contenders, Mr Charles Agbesi and Reverend Fred Agbogbo, polled 192 and 47 votes, respectively.

At Akatsi South, the incumbent Chairman, Mr Anthony Kojo Owusu, retained his position for a third term, securing 786 votes against 406 obtained by his challenger, Mr Anthony Solo Adotevi.

In Ho Central, Mr Mawunyo Agbe, Presiding Member of the Ho Municipal Assembly, was elected constituency chairman after defeating four other contestants.

The Upper West Region saw Mr Joseph Bati winning re-election as Chairman of the Lawra Constituency for a second term, polling 281 votes to narrowly defeat Mr James Lonteng, who obtained 272 votes.

At New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, the incumbent Chairman, Mr Salassie Amuzu, retained his position with 738 votes. His challengers, Mr Charles Boakye and Mr Nathan Ani Asare, polled 663 and 178 votes, respectively.

The Oti Region saw Mr Eric Kwadwo Apeadu being elected Chairman of the Akan Constituency. The election recorded a high turnout, with 1,049 of the 1,069 registered delegates casting their ballots, representing approximately 98 per cent participation.

The constituency elections formed part of the NDC’s internal reorganisation aimed at renewing its leadership structures and electing the executive to coordinate party activities and mobilisation at the local level.

The newly elected executive is expected to strengthen grassroots organisation and help consolidate the party’s structures ahead of the 2028 general election.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged all aspirants to accept the election results in good faith and work together to promote party unity, irrespective of the outcome.

Speaking at the Ketu North Constituency Delegates Conference at Weta in the Volta Region on Sunday, he said unsuccessful candidates should not interpret their defeat as a rejection by the party, explaining that only one person could occupy a particular position at a time.

He encouraged those who lost to remain committed to the party, stressing that they could have opportunities to serve in other capacities in the future.

Mr Asiedu Nketia said the party’s success should not be measured solely by those who emerged victorious, but also by their ability to unite members after the elections.

“What matters is not who wins, but how that person wins and how we are able to put the party together after the election,” he said.

With the constituency-level elections completed, the NDC is expected to proceed with the election of regional and national executives, followed by the selection of its flagbearer, to complete the reorganisation process ahead of the 2028 general election.
