Accra, Oct. 15, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched six publications that document the party’s history, constitutional development, electoral manifestos and contribution to Ghana’s democratic governance.
The publications provide historical records of the party’s political milestones and Ghana’s transition to multiparty democracy.
The launch, held in Accra on Tuesday, seeks to preserve the party’s institutional memory and provide researchers and future generations with materials on its political journey and contributions to the Fourth Republic.
One publication traces the NDC’s constitutional arrangements from 1992 to 2026, while another compiles its election manifestos from 1992 to 2024.
The remaining four volumes document significant political developments, milestones in the Fourth Republic, and periods of political mobilisation in Ghana.
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who launched the books, said they would support research and political education by providing insights into the party’s policy evolution, internal debates and decisions over the years.
She urged regional and constituency executives to make the books available in their offices, while encouraging libraries, research institutions and public officials to preserve copies for future reference.
The Vice President advised the party to uphold social democratic principles, including social justice, equal opportunities and national development that benefited all sections of society, particularly vulnerable groups.
She said the initiative was expected to encourage further documentation of Ghana’s political history, including through digital records, to strengthen scholarship and deepen public understanding of the country’s democratic development.
The books also attracted significant purchases from party leaders and supporters.
The Vice President purchased the first set of six publications for GH¢300,000, while the NDC Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Mr Sammy Gyamfi, each purchased subsequent sets for GH¢300,000.
Some Ministers of State, led by Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Lands Minister, also purchased a set for GH¢300,000.
The Majority Caucus in Parliament bought a set for GH¢300,000, while the Dean of Greater Accra Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) purchased the books for GH¢100,000.
Some party stalwarts also made pledges.
Proceeds from the sales are expected to support the party’s reorganisation, assist vulnerable people at selected health facilities and fund preparations for the publication of a second volume.
Mr Asiedu Nketia, chairperson of the event, commended the speakers for their presentations and urged party members to purchase copies.
“You have all heard the story. I want to urge you to obtain copies, as they will be useful to you in the future,” he said.
“Let us go back and reconnect with everything that has happened and position ourselves to understand the issues and project what will happen in the future.”
